Open Space Brainstorming
Open Space is a great format for generating ideas for improvement in almost any area of business. Typically it involves a much larger participation, sometimes the whole of the company, in an offsite day in which the aim is to stimulate and capture all ideas related to whatever the strategic topic (or topics) are. By encouraging participation at all levels within the company with ‘no wrong answers’, ideas often develop where least expected: sometimes they are small ‘cost free improvements’, and at other times, big new opportunities can be identified by parts of the company which are not usually consulted on strategy.
Alongside its function as a brainstorming event, an Open Space event also functions as a team building and internal communication opportunity. Depending on the structure and who is involved, the event often opens the way for different departments to communicate with each other and to understand and resolve problems.
